My Love for Pokemon
I think it would be fair to say that I’m a nerd and I’ve been one since a kid. I’ve always had this love for a computers, video games, and all those typically nerdy things. I had a childhood filled with gameboys, nintendo 64, and Starcraft.
None of my childhood obsessions was as great as my love for pokemon though. I remember spending countless hours playing Pokemon Blue and battling all the various pokemon of Kanto on my quest to be a Pokemon master. I had pokemon cards like many kids my age and just loved the whole ecosystem of the game. Even today there is a sense of nostalgia brought back by the sounds of that original soundtrack and just the thought of naming my rival something like “poop” still makes me laugh.
It was not too long ago that I stumbled upon a couple of inspiring pokemon related designs. The first was a very realistic, and inspiring, design of pokemon done by arvalis on Deviant Art. If you haven’t seen it yet, you have to check it out, because they are really, really, ridiculously good looking.
The second design that I found, that really got me started with my own project was this tumblr blog called “Project Moonstone”. It is a design project started by Bandito Design Co. to redesign all original 151 pokemon. The design style of the pokemon that they have done thus far (the first 017 of the pokedex) is very interesting and cool looking.
I couldn’t help myself from designing my own type of pokemon-inspired design. I wanted to have some rhyme or reason behind my project, but I didn’t want to just go straight through the pokedex from 001 to 151. I therefore decided to start with the biggest decision anyone faces when starting a new Pokemon game: what pokemon to start with.
Therefore without further adue, “The Starter Pokemon of Kanto”.
I do plan on doing other pokemon related designs and if you have any ideas for what I should do feel free to leave a comment below or hit me up on Twitter
